Favorite dog breeds in 2006

Each year, the American Kennel Club is the number of dogs registered for each breed, and that information is used to discover the favorite dog breeds in the United States for that year. Here are the favorites for the 2006 AKC:

• Labrador Retriever (137,867)

Golden Retriever (48,509)

• Yorkshire Terrier (47,238)

• German Shepherd Dog (45,014)

• Beagle (42,592)

• Dachshund (38,566)

• Boxer(37,268)

• Poodle (31,638)

• Shih Tzu (28,087)

• Miniature Schnauzer (24,144)

Compare this list with the top-ten of the dogs from the United Kingdom:

• Labrador Retriever

• English Cocker Spaniel

• English Springer Spaniel

• German Shepherd

• Staffordshire Bull Terrier

• Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Golden Retriever

• West Highland Terrier

•Boxer

• Border Terrier

Interesting that there are different races in the British Top Ten list that are not near the top ten in the United States.

In the United States was the Labrador Retriever, first for 16 consecutive years. Meanwhile Chihuahua slipped from place to place 10 11. The Miniature Schnauzer replaced.

Is not surprising that the two most popular dog breeds in the United States and Canada, the Labrador Retriever andGolden Retriever. Both these dogs are wonderful, but with its informal nature and great intelligence.

These two races, along with the German Shepherd, the top-ten list of dogs in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom between Labrador and Golden Retriever dogs is great for families and are in a top-ten list of dogs for children .

The same list of "child-friendly dogs" are the Beagle, Poodle, French Bulldog, Pug, Cairn Terrier, OldEnglish Sheepdog, King Charles Spaniel and Cocker Spaniel, from which top the list of several dozen AKC dog.

A view of the United States AKC's top ten list of dogs Yorkshire Terrier is moved into third place, is the highest point since it was recognized by the AKC in 1885. With their vibrant personalities, loving yet stubborn, that deserve to be among the top ten most popular dog breeds. Their only drawback is need for daily care, but as little inconvenience compared to the lovedamage.

While the Labrador retriever has been since 1991, the number one race, that number had a position of the longest of the Cocker Spaniel, from 1936 to 1952 and again from 1983-1990 for a total of 23 years. Look for the Labrador Retriever to beat that record.

The Poodle comes in a very close second to the number of years as America's favorite breed from 1960 to 1982, a total of 22 years. It 'was in 1972 that the large breeds took over as America's favorite, if theDoberman, Rottweiler, Chow Chow has increased in popularity over the years 1980 and 1990.

By comparison, small dogs midway between the four slots in the top ten held on that date. But when we entered the new millennium, small dogs have increased in popularity among Americans, perhaps because of their portability, visibility, or perhaps because celebrities are more than these small breeds.

Notice all the dogs that are in the list of 11-20 most popular:

•Chihuahua (23,575)

• Mops (22,064)

• Bulldogs (20,556)

• Pomerania (19,511)

• Cocker Spaniel (16,343)

• Rottweiler (15,916)

• Boston Terrier (15,852)

• Shetland Sheepdog (14,278)

• Maltese (13,676)

• German Shorthair (13,273)

Four of these dogs come from the group AKCs toy and another, which is Boston Terrier, a small dog from the terrier group. Add the five small dogs from top-ten list, andFor this reason, the new millennium seems to belong to the small dog.

Whatever your favorite breed, we all agree that dogs continue to occupy a very special place in the hearts of millions of Americans, and this is a band that needs no special breed at all.
